Survival Tips For Family Travel

by Trip Wend

You might have loved to travel back when you were young and independent. You might have enjoyed the feeling of freedom, of seeing new places and meeting new people, or perhaps just the comfort and enjoyment of the traditional summer holiday.

But now that you’re traveling with a family, these things are no longer as easy as they used to be. Family travel is a whole new level of challenge compared to traveling on your own or as a couple. Here are some tips on how you can deal with those challenges and enjoy traveling as a family.

One of the first difficulty in family travel is the cost. As you know children do not fly for free after the first couple of years, and airline tickets are not cheap. Discount airfares is the answer to this problem. If you try then you can find amazing deals on airline tickets, making air travel affordable.

The advantage of the car is its relative cheapness. It doesn’t cost much more to drive a car with five people in it, than one that you are alone in. At least in terms of money, that is. When it comes to your sanity, a long drive in a full car can be very costly indeed.

To avoid having your nice children turn into crazy monsters in the back seat, there are a couple of steps you can take. One is to schedule regular stops. It is usually not worth pushing on to get there fast, if that will lead to impatient, wriggly passengers who nag you every five minutes to stop.

When you do stop, try to find a place that allows children some space to run around. Burning off some of the physical energy makes it easier to sit still in the car later. Actually, try to run around some yourself. Exercise has a proven stress reducing effect. I’m sure you can use it.

You should make arrangement for food and water for everyone in the car at reasonable intervals. It will be helpful for the hungry or thirsty passenger. The food that can be eaten with less messiness like snacks can be carried over.

Family travel has many good points with it. Sharing the experiences with your own family members can make them to feel better. Take the time to enjoy the kids’ perspective. Then only you can have a great family travel experience.
