Horseback riding in the wilderness is the most unique and exciting adventure in Kenya and East Africa. It can be done as part of your holiday activity or as Horseback Safari for the experienced rider like the pioneers of Kenya in the good old days did.
The good thing with horse back riding routes is that they avoid the tourist vans, roads or even lodges. The riders will find themselves alienated from the rest of the world and the life takes a slower pace. The camps that one is set up in are quite comfortable and managed by experienced staff. There is nothing like the thrill of hearing a load roar of a lion or watching graceful antelopes as you run along them.
Ride through mountains and forest, across vast open savannah, into rivers and water-holes and up huge escarpments surrounded by zebra and wildebeest or watching a family of elephant feed, or imagine a gallop alongside a herd of giraffe. All these can be done aspart of your holiday activity or as Horseback Safari for the experienced riders. Or do wonderful game bird hunting.
Regions where horseback is popularly done is at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro,Masai Mara national reserve, Loita hills, Amboseli National reserve and Mt. Kenya area.
Breeds used include Somali-Arab cross breeds and well schooled thoroughbred horses and cross polo ponies. Experts as well as beginners will find these horses suitable for them. For those with little experience with horse, they wont be disappointed because they will get to ride on Patent Safety horses that have been trained for these kinds of people.
