Glasgow has appeared in some of the world’s top travel guides as a must visit destination and more and more people are discovering why. It might not jump out at you as a good city break destination but once you discover what Glasgow has to offer you will find out why.

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow was founded in the 6th century with the opening of Glasgow’s first Christian Church. Although the history of the area also includes Romans, Celtic Druids and Stone age man. The first Cathedral was started around 1175 and Glasgow became a major centre for commerce from the 16th century.

Today Glasgow is a major shopping destination with the best range of shops and shopping facilities in the UK after London. So if you want to shop until you drop then Glasgow has all shops you could ever need and more. Glasgow has many attractions and fantastic nightlife as well, so no matter what you are looking for you will find it here.

Another great reason to visit Glasgow is to experience on of the many festivals staged in the city throughout the year. From the International Comedy Festival to the River Festival, Glasgay, Merchant City Festival, Celtic Connections and the many others. There is always an extra reason to be in Glasgow and great entertainment is only another.

Visiting Glasgow is easy and can be very cheap especially if you can get one of the cheap fares with one of the many low cost airlines flying into Glasgow. There are two rail stations in the centre of the city as well as a coach station all with regular services from England and the north of Scotland. There are daily departures from all four of the London airports to Glasgow International.

Glasgow has numerous options when it comes to accommodation including hostels, Bed and Breakfast accommodation, two to five star hotels and serviced self catering apartments. As the Commonwealth games approach 2014 more and more accommodation is being built and opened in the city.

Glasgow can experience different climates all in the one day but this will not detract from your enjoyment as there is lots to do regardless of the weather conditions. Despite what you may believe it can get very warm in Glasgow during the Summer months

There are numerous quality attractions in Glasgow such as the fantastic Kelvingrove Art Gallery one of the best Galleries in the UK if not the best outside London. There is also the Science Mall, which includes the Science Centre, Glasgow Tower and the Glasgow Imax Theatre. Being an old city there are many interesting buildings, architecture and museums all of which have free entry.

A short drive away from Glasgow is Loch Lomond and the beautiful Highlands can be reached are less than an hours drive from Loch Lomond. Stirling and Edinburgh can easily be reached by car for a day trip.
