What speed should I input into the speed hold selector when cruising?

cruising51 What speed should I input into the speed hold selector when cruising?
This question is asked for Flight Simulator; not real life planes.
I currently input 283 mp/h into the speed hold selector.
The aircraft in question is the Boeing 737-400.

Depends, what plane are you flying? If, for example, you’re talking a jet airliner, that’s way slow. If it was, say, a Baron it’s probably a bit too fast.

The best speed to place there would be the speed where the efficiency is maximum for the max endurance for jets and max range for props, but actually airplanes fly faster to minimize the time of flight.
The cruise speed for 737 is approximatly 0.8Mach or 490mph….but this value is only indicative….

Fly it as fast as you want. I flew a 737 and it depends on what altitude you are at. Indicated airspeed is the speed you will be selecting in the box. The higher you go the lower the indicated airspeed will be but the higher the TAS will be too. At low altitude you can fly a 737 between 250 and 350 knots no problem. At FL350 an airspeed of 260 knots is the norm.

Then try this question in the Video and Online Games section.
Let’s keep this one as one for actual aircraft questions – not simulators, okay?

something less than the Vmo… I would say at least 5 knots under… and at least .02 mach under…
