What is the cruising speed of an airliner at 30,000 feet?

cruising65 What is the cruising speed of an airliner at 30,000 feet?
I know the ground speed is somewhere around 500 mph with the average airliner but I don’t know about the airspeed.

Depends on what kind of airliner, air pressure and if the pilot has a mistress in the city they are going to.

  2. 4u2c says:

    approx 500mph

  3. Steak56 says:

350 mph because 672mph is the speed of sound

About 550 mph. That’s the airspeed. If the aircraft is flying in the jet stream, the groundspeed can be up to 150 mph faster. In a headwind, the groundspeed would be slower.

(I brought my handheld GPS on-board a Southwest Boeing 737 to verify this.)

  5. Captain Ku says:

    usually for 747 it’s 280 knots.

I depends on the temperature, size, weight, and many more. The airspeed actually the pressure/air pushing on the aircraft’s nose. If the aircraft is flying in a headwind, it would be going slower – pushing against the wind. The faster the engines go to the faster the air the faster your airspeed. Here are some average speeds for alrliners:

    Boeing 747= approx 939 km/h or 507 knots
    Airbus A320= 903 km/h or 437 knots
    Boeing 767= 914 km/h or 493 knots
