My son just turned 9 months and he has been walking along furniture for about a month and walking with us holding his hands for even longer. He can pull up on anything and tries to walk from the couch to coffee table etc, but obviously is too unsteady yet. How much longer is normal until he can walk by himself? I know every baby is so different.

Well it could be a couple months or in 2 weeks. To help him get a little more steady you can try getting him a walker that he can push or just have him walk from mom to dad that isnt a long walk maybe a couple feet or so. Good Luck.
Well my baby started walking out of the blue! It was two days before his birthday! They just get braver and braver! Just make sure he or she doesn’t hurt themselves or it will take longer! I know its hard to do that!
My 9 month old daughter is doing the same thing … my oldest started walking around 11 months … it’s so much fun watching them explore, but boy do you ever have watch them!
One thing I learnt with two children is that you can never compare. They are each their own unique persons and will do things when they’re good and ready and not a moment before!
It is totally different for each child. They say that boys walk sooner than girls and girls talk sooner than boys. My daughter cruised as soon as she could crawl at 8 or 9 months but was to unsteady and unsure to walk on her own until 15 months! Who knows?
I walked independently at 6 months. Really. My mother said I did not crawl just got up one day and walked from furniture piece to piece and was on my own by my 6 months. My brother took 9 months. My two sons walked independently at 7 and at 9 months. They did not crawl either. Thou they did sit up early and stood up in their cribs and managed to climb out very fast. My wife walked after 1 year. My first son started walking at 7 months and also surprised me by speaking multiple languages by his first year. Not just a word or two …full short sentences of what he wanted. His full time baby sitter was from taiwan an within his first year he spoke English and Taiwanese. He is 25 now and is truly exceptional. My other son who walked at 9 months is very average but is very eye hand coordinated and has a great deal of spacial acuity. I don’t have any explanations for you just observations. They are 25 and 21 now and doing great. Both turned out to have IQ’S in the 150′s which is really high. But that seems not to have amounted to much in turns of their high school and college grades overall but their logic skill does seem really exceptional overall. My only other note is that you need to secure things now if your child is walking that fast. My experience is that this early sign will indicate that he/she will do other things fast too that you will not expect. So lock the cabinets and suggest you expose the child to as much as you can or face a board child that will find other things surprise you with that you may not expect or like. Mine managed to find fascination with electrical outlets and managed to light the carpet on fire. This was before 1 yr old. After that experience I found teddy ruxpin and other learning exectonics to keep them busy. Good luck as one advanced skill seems to indicate other capabilities which you should encourage.
Thats about when my daughter started walking along the furniture and right before she turned one is when she really started walking.
